How a medical problem is usually assessed

Assessment starts with the story: what worries you, when it started, which medicines and supplements you take, and what runs in your family.

Then comes an examination and, if needed, tests or imaging. Each result is read together with your symptoms, your examination and your earlier results, not apart from them.

Once a diagnosis is reached, a treatment and follow-up plan is set. If the problem needs more specialised assessment, you are referred to the right doctor.
